Wednesday, 2nd July 2008

In Ireland, multiple Gr1-winning Coolmore stallion & 14-time champion sire Sadler's Wells (Northern Dancer-Fairy Bridge, by Bold Reason) was inducted into the Irish Derby Hall-Of-Fame at the Curragh, reported racingpost.co.uk. His name joined those of previous recipients of the award: Vincent O'Brien, Lester Piggott, the Aga Khan, Pat Eddery, Sir Michael Stoute & Mike Roarty. Sadler's Wells (sire of 6 Irish Derby winners) was retired from stud duties in May at age 27; he was directly represented in Sunday's Gr1 Irish Derby renewal by Curtain Call & Hindu Kush "while another 4 of the runners, headed by race winner Frozen Fire, were by his sons".
