Fortanyo Wins Peru Gr1 Jockey Club

Thursday, 3rd July 2008

In Peru, 3YO colt Fortanyo (Farallon P-Stania, by Stallion) "capped a Gr1 double for prominent Peruvian international breeder Jaime Rizo Patron Remy's Haras Rancho Fatima as he powered to a 3-lengths victory against older rivals in the Gr1 Clasico Jockey Club del Peru (the country's premier race for older horses on dirt) over 2400m at Hipodromo de Monterrico," reported thoroughbrtedtimes.com. Fortanyo (ridden by Carlos Trujillo for trainer J.Remy) defeated Farushenko Argentine-bred (Roy-Listada, by Parade Marshal) & former champion 2YO filly Morena (Privately Held-Charytin, by Summing). Fortanyo (a "disappointing 8th as the favorite in South America's multi-national Gr1 Grand Premio Latinoamericano Jockey Clubes in Peru on March 15") took his record to 5 wins (also including 2007's Gr2 Clasico Hipodromo De Monterrico over 2400m, plus runner-up in 2007's Gr1 Clasico Derby Nacional-Peruvian Derby over 2400m) from 13 starts.
