Top Hat Wins Brazil Gr1 Machline

In Brazil, former shuttler & now permanently Australian-based Coolmore stallion Royal Academy (Nijinsky-Crimson Saint, by Crimson Satan) added a Gr1 triumph when 5YO entire Top Hat (Royal Academy-Tavira, by Effervescing) led all-the-way to score a 1.25-lengths victory in the Gr1 Grande Premio Copa ABCPCC-Matias Machline (2000m) at Cidade Jardim in Sao Paulo. Top Hat (ridden by Altair Domigos for trainer Joao Macedo) defeated Gusset (Nedawi-Syntax, by Pleasant Variety) & Nitido (Put It Back-Analu, by Roi Normand); he previously won this same race in 2006 & then finished runner-up in 2007's renewal. Also in 2007 Top Hat won Brazil's Gr3 Grande Premio Linneo De Paula Machado (2000m) at Cidade Jardim & Listed Classico Antonio Da Silva Prado (2400m on turf) at Cidade Jardim. And in 2006 Top Hat also won Brazil's Listed Grande Premio Candido Egydio De Souza Aranha (2000m) & Listed Classico Antonio Da Silva Prado (2400m), plus finishing runner-up in the Gr1 Grande Premio Cruzeiro do Sul (3rd leg of the Hipodromo La Gavea Triple Crown series) over 2400m. Overall Top Hat now has 10 wins (5 stakes) from 22 starts.
