US Congressman Seeks "Further Action On Horse Racing"
The US Congressman who spurred a hearing on equine safety & drug issues "believes further action will be required," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Kentucky Representative Ed Whitfield (the ranking member on the subcommittee that conducted last month's headline-hogging hearing into the thoroughbred racing & breeding industry) said federal legislation "is a strong possibility at this point" & noted: "It is clear that the 38 different state racing commissions, as well as the numerous other interest groups, are not in a position to protect this industry. Following last month's hearing, it has become apparent that Congress will no longer allow the status quo."
