Qld Breeders 5: Stallions Need To Be Commercial

Friday, 4th July 2008

Bob Frappell also reported there was significant discussion "on the merits of Queensland stallion progeny, taking into account stallions like Show A Heart, Falvelon & Sequalo. Magic Millions said only commercial stallions can compete & Queensland stallion owners in many cases need to replace non-commercial stallions, if they want to sell on a national stage. Some of the industry agreed with that view, but many did not & Neville Stewart stated it was now impossible to launch a new stallion in Queensland because of the Magic Millions stance towards Queensland sires. Magic Millions advised it was generally the responsibility of Paul Knight & his staff to forecast the value of 1st-season progeny & this generally got back to the opinion of 1 or 2 people. Neville Stewart advised Magic Millions they had the ability to dictate the fate of new sires by the positioning of their progeny in the sale & this was becoming an unacceptable risk to studs."
