Racing Vic Implements Jumps Safety Measures

Friday, 4th July 2008

The Racing Victoria Board announced it has "acted immediately to improve safety measures for all horses & jockeys involved in jumps racing in Victoria". Following a submission from the Australian Jumps Racing Association, the Board yesterday agreed to "a number of initiatives, some of which will be in place for Saturday's Grand National Steeplechase meeting at Flemington". The recommendations to be implemented immediately are:

  • For all jumps races run at Flemington, the jumps will be placed on the inside rail.
  • The setting of wings for each jump will be more closely monitored to ensure the inside wings are always set up with a gap of no more than 30cm from the inside rail.
  • The sight lines along the take-offs will be re-painted & extended to 30cm at the bottom of each obstacle.
