In the R3 million (A$430,000) Gr1 Durban July (2200m) at Greyville, the judge was forced to declare a dead-heat between locally-bred 5YO gelding Pocket Power (Jet Master-Stormsvlei, by Prince Florimund) & imported 4YO mare Dancer's Daughter (Act One-Reason To Dance, by Damister).. Third was 4YO gelding Bound By Honour (Rambo Dancer-Child Of Grace, by Only A Pound. Mike Bass is the trainer of Pocket Power, while Dancer's Daughter - campaigned by the Beck family which owns Gainesway in Kentucky - is trained by Justin Snaith. The duo was favourite & 2nd favourite, respectively. It is the 1st time in 41 years that a dead-heat has resulted in South Africa's premier race, the last time involving the legendary Sea Cottage. "Now an eleven-time winner, Pocket Power's stakes earnings of R5,234,790 puts him within R5000 (A$700) of the South African stakes earnings record held by Ilha Da Vitoria," noted racingsouthafrica.com.
