Curlin In Final Prep For Turf Debut
Globe-trotting sensation and reigning US Horse-of-the-Year Curlin (Smart Strike-Sheriff's Deputy, by Deputy Minister) has worked an easy half-mile over Churchill Down's turf track in preparation for his debut on grass in the Gr1 Man O' War Stks at Belmont Park on July 12. 4YO entire Curlin has now won 5 consecutive races that include the Gr1 Jockey Club Gold Cup, Gr1 Breeder's Cup Classic and US$6m Dubai World Cup, but this will be his first start on grass in a move aiming him for a possible tilt at this year's Arc de Triomphe on October 5. Breeder's Cup Turf winners Better Talk Now (Talkin Man-Bendita, by Baldiski) and Red Rocks (Galileo-Pharmacist, by Machiavellian) will also contest the Man O' War next week, and Curlin's trainer Steve Asmussen commented this week; "That's the question we want answered this weekend, if Curlin is of the calibre to be considered for the Arc. Two previous Breeder's Cup Turf winners should definitely give us that answer." Curlin has won US$9,396,800 to date, now third in lifetime earnings behind the legendary Cigar.
