Danehill Adds UK Stakes Success

Wednesday, 9th July 2008

Ill-fated Coolmore shuttler & multiple champion sire Danehill (Danzig-Razyana, by His Majesty) added to his massive black-type haul when evergreen 9YO gelding Distinction racked up another stakes victory in the £40,000 (A$64,000) Listed Esher Stakes (16.5 furlongs) at Sandown Park. Getting home by the barest margin under urging from Richard Moore (for trainer Michael Stoute), Distinction won by a short-head from 4YO entire Samuel (Sakhee-Dolores, by Danehill), with a further 6-lengths to 7YO gelding Tungsten Strike (Smart Strike-Bathilde, by Generous). Distinction last won at stakes level when dead-heating in the £26,000 (A$62,000) Listed Fenwolf Stakes (2 miles) at Ascot last October. Distinction was a 28,000 guineas (A$73,000) foal at the UK Tattersalls December Sale & then a subsequent 190,000 guineas (A$494,000) Goffs Sale yearling. He finished 6th in the 2004 Gr1 Melbourne Cup (3200m); in 2005 he won the UK Gr2 Goodwood Cup (2 miles) & finished runner-up in both the UK Gr1 Ascot Gold Cup (2.5 miles) & Gr2 Lonsdale Cup (2 miles) before finishing 19th in his 2nd attempt at the Melbourne Cup; & in 2006 he won the UK Listed Aston Park Stakes (13.5 furlongs) at Newbury before finishing 3rd in the Gr1 Ascot Gold Cup (2.5 miles).
