Hendra Virus Outbreak In Queensland

Wednesday, 9th July 2008

Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland has advised an outbreak of the potentially deadly Hendra Virus. According to the news flash last night, "Some 39 horses have been quarantined; 3 horses have died to date and tests are ongoing on others to confirm or rule out the virus. At this stage the cause of the outbreak of the virus has not been pinpointed but the first horse to be confirmed with the deadly virus has been at the clinic for 12 months." The release added: "There is no possibility of the virus spreading from the clinic as quarantine procedures have been strictly implemented for some time whilst they awaited the conformation or otherwise of the disease."
