Racing NSW Breaks Autumn Carnival Impasse

Wednesday, 9th July 2008

Following a meeting yesterday to attempt to break the deadlock between the Sydney Turf Club & the Australian Jockey Club, Racing NSW announced the Autumn Carnival race dates for 2009. According to a press release by Racing NSW, "The AAMI Golden Slipper will be conducted on Saturday, 4 April 2009, with the AJC carnival to commence on Easter Saturday, 11 April 2009, featuring the David Jones AJC Derby. The AJC Committee is currently considering running the carnival over three consecutive Saturdays with a final decision being made by the end of July." Meanwhile, the media release also stated: "It should be stressed however that the format for 2009 is not a precedent and that talks are continuing for the dates for 2010 carnival." Racing NSW Chief Executive, Peter V'landys thanked the AJC and STC for the spirit of cooperation. "With the assistance of Events NSW the Autumn Carnival next year has the potential to break all records," V'landys said.
