Nahoodh Wins UK Gr1 Falmouth Stakes
For the first time in his illustrious career, jockey Frankie Dettori has ridden the winner of the £113,540 (A$235,000) Gr1 Falmouth Stakes (1 mile) for fillies and mares, held at Newmarket overnight. Run in driving rain, Dettori, having elected to sit off the pace, sooled the Mark Johnston-trained 3YO filly Nahoodh (Clodovil-Mise, by Indian Ridge) to the line ahead of Cheveley Stud's duo, 3YO filly Infallible (Pivotal-Irresistible, by Cadeaux Genereux) & 5YO mare Heaven Sent (Pivotal-Heavenly Ray, by Rahy). As a juvenile last year Nahoodh won the £85,000 (A$204,000) UK Gr2 Lowther Stakes (6 furlongs) for 2YO fillies at York. New Zealand's leading Gr1-mare Seachange (who ran her last race) was prominent for a long way, only fading in the closing stages to finish a highly respectable 4th. She will now be retired to stud.
