Boom NZ Galloper To Make Aust Debut Next Month

Friday, 11th July 2008

Highly regarded New Zealand-owned multiple Gr1 winner Alamosa (O'Reilly-Lodore Mystic, by Centaine) is set to make his much-anticipated Australian racing debut in next month's weight-for-age A201,000 Gr2 Liston Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield in Melbourne. The decision regarding the triple Gr1 hero has been confirmed by Bill Gleeson, owner of NZ Wellfield Lodge, which completed a multi-million dollar deal to purchase 3YO colt Alamosa earlier this year. The Palmerston North-based stud retains the controlling interest in Alamosa who is scheduled to be retired to stud in 2009. Gleeson said Alamosa is scheduled to trial on August 1 prior to lining up on August 16 in the Liston Stakes, a race won last year by Apache Cat. The race is intended as a pipe-opener en route to a tilt at the Gr1 $3 million Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday, October 25. Now trained by Mick Price, Alamosa was formerly trained at Matamata in New Zealand by Peter McKay & his 9 career wins to date from 17 starts include 3 races at Gr1 level - the Otaki-Maori Weight-For-Age Stakes (1600m) at Otaki, Ford Ellerslie Sires Produce Stakes (1200m) & the Thorndon Mile (1600m) at Trentham.
