Massive 20 Lengths Maiden Win For Hawk Wing Brother

Friday, 11th July 2008

In what must rank as one of the most awe-inspiring Maiden victories in many years, the Aidan O'Brien-trained 3YO colt Zulu Chief (Fusaichi Pegasus-La Lorgnette, by Val de L'orne) turned a race at Naas (Ireland) into a one act affair when coming home 20 lengths clear. According to the-racehorse.com, Zulu Chief "is bred to be good as a three-quarter brother to racehorse Hawk Wing, a triple Gr1 winner & successful young sire." The duo's dam La Lorgnette was Champion 3YO filly of Canada, with her off-spring also including stakes-winner Alexandrina, producer of Gr1 winner & Canadian Horse-of-the-Year Thornfield. Coolmore's multiple Gr1-winning former shuttler Hawk Wing (Woodman-La Lorgnette, by Val De L'Orne) recorded his 2nd Australian winner when 2YO gelding Hawkeye Hope (Hawk Wing-Final Waltz, by Danehill) scored over 1100m at Queanbeyan for trainer Neville Layt earlier this month.
