1st Winner For US Freshman Sire Smarty Jones

In the Caribbean, multiple Gr1-winning US 7YO freshman sire & dual classic-winning champion Smarty Jones (Elusive Quality-I'll Get Along, by Smile) record his 1st winner when 2YO filly La Equivocada (Smarty Jones-Dragonada, by Nureyev) led all-the-way for a 5-lengths victory over 5.5 furlongs at Hipodromo Camarero in Puerto Rico for trainer Luis Adorno, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Smarty Jones stands for US$100,000 at Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky & has 83 2YOs in his 1st crop. Pennsylvania-bred Smarty Jones won the 2004 US Gr1 Kentucky Derby & Gr1 Preakness Stakes to claim the Eclipse Award for champion 3YO male; his only loss in 9 starts came when runner-up in the Gr1 Belmont Stakes. Smarty Jones opened his 3YO season with 6 consecutive stakes wins (also including the Gr2 Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park) & overall earned US$7,613,155.
