Tabcorp & Tatts Push For Wagering Merger

Tuesday, 15th July 2008

Tatts Group & Tabcorp "say increased competition in the gambling industry has put them in a better position to pull off a merger of their wagering operations," reported The Australian Financial Review. Tatts chief executive Dick McIlwain & his Tabcorp counterpart Elmer Funke Kupper "reiterated the benefits of a tie-up as they grapple with a change to licensing rules in Victoria, but said there was no deal in the making". McIlwain said the companies could "reduce their costs & provide bigger pools for customers if they combined their wagering businesses". And Funke Kupper added: "Creating a national pool in light of much stronger competition makes a lot of sense."
