Kentucky Yearlings Day-1: US$300k Saint Liam Filly
Peachtree Racing Stable president John Fort paid US$300,000 for a filly from the 1st & only crop of ill-fated 2005 US Horse-Of-The-Year Saint Liam (out of unraced 13-year-old Gold Legend mare Chao Praya) consigned by Bluewater Sales as agent. The filly is a half-sister to Gr3-winner Level Playingfield & Fort told bloodhorse.com his final bid "was right on the price we expected" & with the limited supply of Saint Liam offspring noted: "There aren't going to be a lot of horses coming along to dilute her value. If a stallion stands for 20 years or something, maybe he does have a few great horses, but there are an awful lot of average horses that can sort of dilute his overall influence on the industry. So I thought that was an appealing factor, that she's by a stallion that had 1 crop. If she turns out to be a good race mare, she'll be special. She's a great, big, scopey filly; she's the kind that looks like she would run a long way."
