Danroad Leads NZ-Based 1st Season Sires
NZ Hamilton-based Highview Stud's Australian-bred stallion Danroad (Danehill-Strawberry Girl, by Strawberry Road) is the leading NZ-based 1st-season sire for the 2007-08 racing season, based on Australasian progeny earnings of A$412,474 (led by Gr1 T.J.Smith Classic winner Rockdale, who also finished 2nd in the Gr2 QTC Sires' Produce Stakes). Danroad (owned by the Hong Kong Breeders' Club) boasts a strike-rate of 4 individual winners & 2 place-getters from only 9 starters in Australasia this season. His NZ winners this season include stakes-performer Amazing Sky, Worthing & Kerilla. On the 1st-season sires list for Australasia, there are only 3 stallions ahead of Danroad (& all are Australian-based): Exceed And Excel, Falbrav & Lohnro. Highview managing director Brent Gillovic said Danroad "is attracting great support this year from NZ broodmare owners & is expected to have a full book of up to 120 mares, of a highest-ever quality, by the end of this month". Danroad (a 6-time winner, including Gr2 as a 2YO) was 2nd leading colt on the 2001 NZ 2YO Free Handicaps; he is standing the 2008 season at NZ$6,000+GST at Highview alongside Align & Kashani.
