Melb Cup Option For Weld's Irish Winner

Thursday, 17th July 2008

In Ireland overnight, trainer Dermot Weld announced possible Gr1 Melbourne Cup ambitions for stayer Profound Beauty (Danehill-Diamond Trim, by Highest Honor) after the 4YO mare raced away for a 4.5-lengths victory in the €50,000 (A$85,000) Listed Challenge Stakes (14 furlongs) at Leopardstown. Ill-fated former Coolmorse shuttler Danehill (Danzig-Razyana, by His Majesty) added a black-type success as Profound Beauty (ridden by Pat Smullen for Weld) defeated Galistic (Galileo-Mockery, by Nashwan) & favourite Peppertree Lane (Peintre Celebre-Salonrolle, by Tirol). Profound Beauty "caused quite a stir in running away with the Challenge Stakes" noted the-racehorse.com & Weld immediately declared "big plans" for the mare, noting she "is entered for the Gr1 Irish St Leger & we will consider entering her for the Melbourne Cup. I will have to speak to connections (Moyglare Stud). However I'd have some reservations about Melbourne as she is only a 4YO."
