The Jackal Wins Ramornie Handicap

Thursday, 17th July 2008

On the track, Bengalla Stud sire Bite The Bullet (Spectacular Bid-Lassie's Lady, by Alydar) added a black-type success when 5YO gelding The Jackal (Bite The Bullet-Positive Surprise, by Best Western) scored a 2.5-lengths victory in yesterday's $130,000 Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton to claim the northern NSW feature for the 2nd year in succession. Despite slightly missing the start, The Jackal (ridden by Robert Thompson for owner-trainer Paul St Vincent) set a new track record (1min 8.02sec) in defeating fast-finishing 6YO gelding Captain Bax (Snippets-Snow Finch, by Storm Bird) & front-running top-weight & Gr1-winning 4YO gelding Typhoon Zed (Zeditave-Royal Diploma, by Honor Grades). The Jackal (a $20,000 yearling consigned by Baramul Stud at the 2004 Magic Millions National Sale) now has 10 wins (also including 2007 Gr3 W.J.Healy Stakes over 1200m at Eagle Farm & Listed Prime Minister's Cup over 1300m at the Gold Coast) & 9 placings (including 2007's Gr3 Frederick Clissold Stakes over 1200m & Listed Chief De Beers Quality over 1100m) from 37 starts for $720,075 earnings.
