Thursday, 17th July 2008

In Australia, "emerging big time race player Nathan Tinkler has added another potential stallion to his Patinack Farm line-up with the purchase of the Tim Martin-trained Murtajill from Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum for an undisclosed sum." reported The Sydney Morning Herald. Martin (who was also in the ownership of the Gr1-placed colt) confirmed the sale had taken place "after Murtajill's unplaced Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap run last month" but added he "understood" the 3YO sprinter will "continue racing through the Melbourne spring carnival" & declared: "His best is still ahead of him." Last season's Gr3-winning juvenile colt Murtajill (Rock Of Gibraltar-Skating, by At Talaq) was the highest-priced weanling ever sold in Australasia when Tim Stakemire (Australian agent for Sheikh Mohammed) paid $660,000 at the 2005 Magic Millions June National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast; he subsequently set a race record on debut in winning in September 2006's Listed Breeders Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick in Sydney & then added victory 2007's Gr3 Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Randwick plus a placing in the Gr2 International Animal Health Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill. During 2008 Murtajill has finished 3rd in March's Listed Strada Stakes (1200m) at Randwick, runner-up in April's Gr2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill & runner-up in both May's Gr1 All-Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick & Gr1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) at Doomben. Overall Murtajill currently has 2 wins & 5 placings from 15 starts for $621,825 earnings.
