Steel Giant Sold To HK For $1m+
Trainer Rick Worthington's "affinity with selling horses to Hong Kong has continued with the promising Steel Giant (Carnegie-Vonanne, by Creese) heading overseas after a substantial offer well over $1 million," reported The Sydney Morning Herald. Worthington (who raced Steel Giant with Australian Jockey Club chairman Ross Smyth-Kirk) confirmed: "The offer just kept going up & up when I said I didn't want to sell. It got to the stage that I was left with no choice but to say yes." The 3YO gelding Steel Giant (a $160,000 yearling at the 2006 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) currently has 4 wins & 1 placing (plus 5th in both this year's Gr1 Randwick Guineas & Gr1 Rosehill Guineas) from 8 starts for $102,500 earnings. Worthington previously sold Sydney winners War Of The Worlds & Star Of Luis to HK interests.
