1st Foal By California Dane

Tuesday, 22nd July 2008

In the NSW Hunter Valley, studs fortunate enough to have stallions on-farm & therefore able to capitalise on the Australian Stud Book's one-off decision to allow serving to commence early in 2007 (to cope with Equine Influenza movement restrictions) now have foals due. Denman-based Baerami Thoroughbreds announced 2 foals arrived on the weekend, including the 1st sired by multiple Gr2-winning 5YO 1st-crop stallion California Dane (Danehill-Storminwinter, by Seattle Slew). The filly is out of winning Hennessey mare Christie's Girl (a daughter of good racemare Countess Christie, in turn a daughter of Marscay); Christie's Girl is also a half-sister to last season's stakes-winning juvenile I Have No Fear. California Dane (1 of only 2 sons of Danehill to win at weight-for-age over 1000m) won both the Gr2 Carlyon Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley & Gr2 Schweppes Stakes, as well as setting the 1200m track record at Moonee Valley as a 3YO (& running 2 of the 4 fastest 1200m times at that track). He will stand his 2nd season at Baerami for $13,750.
