Wednesday, 23rd July 2008

US broodmare Valid Victress (dam of Eclipse Award winner & triple Gr1-victor Perfect Sting) died "from foaling complications" aged 18 at Frank Stronach's Adena Springs Kentucky, reported bloodhorse.com. Florida-bred Valid Victress (by Valid Appeal) won the 1993 Dramatic Joy Stakes at Golden Gate Fields & was subsequently purchased by Stronach (in-foal to El Gran Senor) for US$195,000 at the 1994 Keeneland November breeding stock sale. Her 4 named foals (all winners) include Stronach home-bred Perfect Sting (by Vinery Stud shuttler Red Ransom) who was voted 2000 US Champion Turf Female after winning the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf in course-record-equaling time (as well as winning both the 1999 Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes & Gr1 Garden City Breeders' Cup Handicap) & tallying career earnings of US$2,202,042.
