Quarantine May Stop Japan Melb Cup Runners

However Japan's "best stayers, including 2006 Melbourne Cup hero Delta Blues, seem likely to miss the big race later this year because of strict quarantine protocols," reported The Daily Telegraph. Racing Victoria's Leigh Jordon said "negotiations were continuing" with the Australian & Japanese governments "to try to determine a way of relaxingthe existring procedures that require Japanese horses to quarantine at home, in a stop-over country (most likely Singapore) & then in Australia before they are allowed to race". Jordon noted: "These restrictions obviously make it very difficult to get the Japanese horses to Melbourne for the spring." Her summed up: "It won't be easy unless we can get some changes to the quarantine protocols."
