UK Stayer Yellowstone Confirmed For Melb Cup

Thursday, 24th July 2008

In the UK overnight, trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam confirmed: "The long term goal for Yellowstone is the Melbourne Cup." Yellowstone (who won the Listed Silver Cup at York earlier this month) is among the leading contenders for the historic Totesport Ebor Handicap at York on August 20, but "looks set to bypass the race in favour of the following month's Gr1 Irish St Leger," reported racingpost.co.uk. Chapple-Hyam explained: "We will probably swerve the Ebor & go to the Irish St Leger, because if he won in the Ebor he would go extremely high in the weights which compromise his chance in Melbourne." The Ebor was won by Luca Cumani's subsequent Melbourne Cup runner-up Purple Moon last season.
