US Gr1-Producer Homewrecker Euthanased Age 25
US Gr1-producer Homewrecker "a vital broodmare in Edward Evans's distinguished band" at Spring Hill Farm in Virginia, was euthanased "because of the infirmities of old age" at 25, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Homewrecker (Buckaroo-Execution, by The Axe II) produced Gr1-winner Prenup & 4 other graded stakes-winners from 11 starters. In addition, her daughter Marital Spook (by Silver Ghost) is the dam of 3 stakes-winners (including Gr1-winning sire Yonaguska). Homewrecker's 1st foal Honor The Hero (a gelding by Hero's Honor) won 25 races (13 stakes) & equaled a world record by completing 6 furlongs in 1min 6.8sec in the 1993 Gr3 Phoenix Gold Cup Stakes at Turf Paradise & also set a Turf Paradise course record for 5 furlongs in 56.2sec in 1995. Stakes-winner Capitalimprovement was her 2nd foal, followed by Marital Spook as her 3rd foal. Then came Prenup (by Smarten) who won the 1994 Gr1 Jerome Handicap & Maryland Million Sprint Handicap, plus 3rd in the 1993 Gr1 Futurity Stakes); he now stands at stud in Greece. In 1997 Homewrecker produced 5-time stakes-winner Cat's At Home (by Tabasco Cat) who won the 2002 Gr2 Philip Iselin Handicap; he died in 2007 after standing at Windfields Farm in Canada. Evans sent Homewrecker to Ireland to be bred to former Coolmore shuttler Giant's Causeway in 2001 & the resulting colt Giant Wrecker won the 2007 Gr3 Canadian Turf Handicap.
