Kentucky Task Force To Study Future Of Racing

In the US, Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear "created a task force to study the future of horse racing, charging its members with making recommendations to give Kentucky horse racing a 'more sound financial future'," reported kentucky.com. Beshear told the task force to study "the economic soundness of the industry, the effectiveness & quality of drug testing, the proper role of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission & the adequacy of state laws & regulations". Task Force members are: breeder Tracy Farmer; Kentucky Horse Racing Commission chairman Robert Beck; Public Protection Cabinet secretary Bob Vance; Keeneland Association president Nick Nicholson; real estate developer Brian Lavin; Ellis Park owner Ron Geary; Churchill Downs president Steven Sexton; former director of the Equine Industry Program at the University of Louisville Dr Robert Lawrence; Red Mile/Tattersalls president Joe Costa; equine attorney Edward Bonnie; attorney Duncan Pitchford; & Beshear general counsel Ellen Hesen.
