Canadian Authorities Examine Use Of Whip

Wednesday, 30th July 2008

In Canada, the Ontario Racing Commission "will hold a special working session to explore the use of the whip at the province's racetracks," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Beginning in September, the initiative "will examine statistical information, video race replays & the policies & experiences of other racing jurisdictions concerning the use of the whip in thoroughbred racing". The session will also assess the "current policies on whip use in Ontario & determine what changes need to be made". Active & retired jockeys, plus representatives from horsemen's organisations, racetracks, animal welfare groups & equine veterinarians will be in attendance.
