Werribee Talks With "Leading Racing Identity"
Werribee Racing Club issued a statement "to clarify its position on the future of racing in Werribee". It noted: "Contrary to a newspaper report in Melbourne's The Herald Sun (yesterday) the racecourse is not about to become privatised. In the article, trainer Lee Freedman admitted that 'The best result for the Victorian Racing Industry would be to enhance & utilise the facilities'. The WRC agrees 100%. With that ideal in mind, the club is holding preliminary talks with a leading racing identity next week. The WRC will hold any lease on the land & then on-lease it to the relevant party. The WRC would continue to control racing at the track & is simply maximising the use of the facility & guaranteeing the future, not only of racing at Werribee, but also the open land & facilities for the use of the local community. WRC is keen to work with Racing Victoria to ensure the best possible outcome for the racing industry, the club & its members & the people of the City of Wyndham. The Club will meet with Racing Victoria soon to update it on its progress."
