Thursday, 31st July 2008

In the UK overnight, Coolmore's US-bred & Ballydoyle-trained 3YO colt Henrythenavigator (Kingmambo-Sequoyah, by Sadler's Wells) notched his 4th successive Gr1 triumph of the season with victory by a head against older rivals in the £300,000 (A$630,000) Gr1 Sussex Stakes (8 furlongs) at Goodwood. Favourite Henrythenavigator (ridden by Johnny Murtagh for trainer Aidan O'Brien) defeated fellow US-bred 3YO colt Raven's Pass (Elusive Quality-Ascutney, by Lord At War) & 4YO entire Majot Cadeaux (Cadeaux Genereux-Maine Lobster, by Woodman). At his previous start Henrythenavigator set a track record in winning last month's UK Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes (8 furlongs) at Royal Ascot; that followed victories in both May's UK Gr1 2000 Guineas (8 furlongs) at Newmarket & Gr1 Irish 2000 Guineas (8 furlongs) at The Curragh. Last season Henrythenavigator won the UK Gr2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot & then finished runner-up in Ireland's Gr1 Phoenix Stakes (6 furlongs) at The Curragh & 3rd in Ireland's Gr2 Futurity Stakes (7 furlongs) at The Curragh. Overall he now has 6 wins & 2 placings from 8 starts for £807,725 (A$1.696m) earnings.
