Spartacus Crowned NZ Champ 1st-Season Sire

Thursday, 31st July 2008

The Oaks Stud's dual Gr1-winning stallion Spartacus (Danehill-Teslemi, by Ogygian) has claimed the title as New Zealand's Champion 1st-Season Sire for the 2007-08 season which finishes today, ahead of Westbury Stud's Captain Rio (Pivotal-Beloved Visitor, by Miswaki), Windsor Park's Thorn Park (Spinning World-Joy, by Bluebird) & Hallmark Stud's Gold Mine (Mr Prospector-Ocean Cat, by Storm Cat). The Oaks Stud general manager Rick Williams commented: "We are delighted to see Spartacus make such a solid start to his stud career in NZ. He has hit the ground running & has already shown the ability to leave both fast & staying types. Spartacus proved very popular with breeders last season covering 170 mares & will serve a quality book of 120-130 mares again this year". Spartacus (formerly owned in association with Coolmore Stud in Ireland) was purchased outright earlier this season by a partnership including the The Oaks Stud, plus Sir Patrick & Lady Hogan, Peter & Philip Vela, Scott Richard, Scott Williams & Peter Francis. He is standing in 2008 for NZ$10,000+GST.
