El Maze Wins Spring Stakes
Emirates Park stallion El Moxie (Conquistador Cielo-Raise The Standard, by Hoist The Flag) added a group success when veteran 8YO gelding El Maze (El Moxie-Almazyoon, by Danehill) scored a 0.75-length victory in the $100,000 weight-for-age Gr3 Spring Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville in Adelaide. El Maze (ridden by Clare Lindop for trainer Leon MacDonald) defeated 8YO mare Sensational Toy (Toy Pindarri-Hot Sensation, by Classic Style) & Gr1-winning 7YO gelding Niconero (Danzero-Nicola Lass, by Scenic). El Maze (a $26,000 yearling at the 2002 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold Coast) finished 3rd in this race last year & overall now has 15 wins (also including 2007's Listed City Of Marion Stakes over 1200m at Morphettville) & 18 placings (also including March's Listed Matrice Stakes over 1200m at Morphettville, plus 2007's McKay Stakes over 1100m at Morphettville & Listed Oakbank Stakes over 1100m at Oakbank, as well as 2005's Listed Wylie Handicap over 1100m at Morphettville) from 66 starts for $507,230 earnings.
