Monday, 11th August 2008

Also in Chicago, Virginia-bred but European-trained colt Winchester (Theatrical-Rum Charger, by Spectrum) raced away for an emphatic 7.25-lengths victory in the US$400,000 Gr1 Secretariat Stakes (10 furlongs on turf) for 3YOs at Arlington Park. Winchester (ridden by Rene Douglas for Irish trainer Dermot Weld) defeated Ballydoyle's fellow European-trained colt Plan (Storm Cat-Spain, by Thunder Gulch) & favoured front-running Gr2-winning colt Tizdejavu (Tiznow-Remember When, by Dixie Brass). At his previous start, Winchester finished 7th in June's Gr1 Irish Derby; overall he now has 2 wins (plus runner-up in June's Irish Listed Silver Stakes over 10 furlongs at The Curragh) from 6 starts for US$274,684 earnings.
