Louisiana Yearlings: Average Up 45.8%
Overall the Louisiana sale produced "major across-the-board increases in all key statistical categories," reported bloodhorse.com. A total of 171 yearlings sold for US$2,086,300 (up 61.9% on last year's 154 sold for US$$1,288,300). The US$12,201 average was up 45.8% (last year US$8,366) & the US$6,000 was up 36.4% (last year US$4,400). This year's buy-back rate was 33.7% (compared with 47.4% in 2007). Sale coordinator Tom Early commented: "We had the best catalogue we've ever had & had a lot more buyers than ever. Plus, more people are realising what a great place it is to race here (Louisiana), with the purses they are paying."
