Friday, 3rd October 2008

In Sydney, the NSW Government & Australian Jockey Club signed a new 99-year lease to secure the future of Royal Randwick racecourse. NSW Minister For Racing Kevin Greene commented: "This legislation allows the Trustees of Randwick Racecourse to grant a lease of racecourse lands for up to 99 years, giving the AJC security of tenure here until 2107." And AJC chairman Ross Smyth-Kirk noted: "Long term tenure allows the AJC to re-invest to improve the facilities for the racing public of NSW. Immediately following Melbourne Cup day, Stage 1 of the master plan will commence in earnest. This work will improve the customer experience through improved entry & exit facilities, add new day stalls & enhance the public domain."
