Florida Sire Stack Dies At 26

Friday, 3rd October 2008

Pensioned sire Stack (Nijinsky II-File, by Tom Rolfe) died in his paddock at Pinecrest Stables in Florida aged 26, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Stack (who sired 30 stakes-winners) stood in Peru from 1986-1994 (when he moved to Pinecrest) & was Peru's leading sire in 1992, 1993 & 1995, as well as leading broodmare sire in 2003 & 2004. Kentucky-bred Stack (a half-brother to champion Forty Niner) was pensioned in 2004 because of decreased fertility; his best US runners include graded stakes-winners Stay Forever, Stokosky & Sierra Virgen. On the track himself, Stake won 4 of 18 starts.
