Arc Sale: Average Up 26%

Tuesday, 7th October 2008

Overall at the Arqana Sale, only 23 of the 39 horses offered changed hands & "consequently the clearance rate plummeted from 70% to 59%, while the aggregate dropped 12% €3,542,000 (A$6.021m)" reported racingpost.co.uk. However that climbed to €3,829,500 (A$6.510m) following 4 private transactions. Meanwhile the €154,000 (A$261,000) average was up 26%, though the €75,000 (A$128,000) median fell 6%. Arqana chairman Eric Hoyeau commented: "In the current economic context, we have reason to be pleased with such an increase in average. The results show once more that there is always plenty of money for good horses, of which the 2008 catalogue was particularly rich. The variety in the destinies to which the horses sold, ranging from Dubai to Cheltenham, is also a positive indicator of the large support attracted by this unique sale."
