Carriage Trail Wins US Gr1 Juddmonte Spinster
Former Coolmore shuttler Giant's Causeway (Storm Cat-Mariah's Storm, by Rahy) added US Gr1 quinella when 5YO mare Carriage Trail (Giant's Causeway-Manoa, by Seeking The Gold) shattered the track record in blitzing her rivals by 7.75-lengths in the US$500,000 Gr1 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes (9 furlongs on all-weather) for fillies & mares at Keeneland. Despite shifting out dramatically in the straight, Carriage Trail (ridden by Kent Desormeaux for trainer Shug McGaughey) clocked 1min 46.77sec (eclipsing the previous record of 1min 47.97sec set by Go Between in October 2007) in defeating 4YO mare Model (Giant's Causeway-Snowfire, by Machiavellian) & Irish-bred fellow 5YO mare Rosinka (Soviet Star-Last Drama, by Last Tycoon). Previously this season Carriage Trail won April's Gr3 Doubledogdare Stakes (8.5 furlongs on all-weather) at Keeneland, then finished 3rd in July's Listed Mariensky Stakes (8.5 furlongs) at Belmont Park, before winning August's Listed De La Rose Stakes (8 furlongs on turf) at Saratoga & then finishing runner-up later in August in the Gr2 Ballston Spa Breeders' Cup Handicap (8.5 furlongs on turf) at Saratoga. And last year Carriage Trail ran 3rd in the Gr1 Humana Distaff Handicap (7 furlongs) at Churchill Downs. Overall she now has 6 wins from 15 starts for US$644,628 earnings.
