Tuesday, 7th October 2008

Also in Canada, former Darley shuttler & Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner Singspiel (In The Wings-Glorious Song, by Halo) added a Gr1 triumph when Godolphin's Irish-bred 4YO mare Folk Opera (Singspiel-Skiphall, by Halling) scored a front-running 1.75-lengths victory in the C$1 million Gr1 E.P.Taylor Stakes (10 furlongs on turf) for fillies & mares at Woodbine. Making her North American debut, favourite Folk Opera (ridden by Frankie Dettori for trainer Saeed bon Suroor) defeated fellow Irish-bred 4YO mare Callwood Dancer (Danehill Dancer-Ahdaab, by Rahy) & another 4YO mare & 2007 Canadian Horse-Of-The-Year Sealy Hill (Point Given-Boston Twist, by Boston Harbor). Previously this year, Folk Opera won both France's Gr2 Prix Jean Romanet (2000m) at Deauville in August & May's UK Listed Pinnacle Stakes (12 furlongs) at Haydock, as well as finishing runner-up in both July's UK Listed Aphrodite Stakes (12 furlongs) at Newmarket & UK Gr3 Lillie Langtry Stakes (14 furlongs) at Goodwood. Last year Folk Opera also finished 3rd in the UK Listed Oaks Trial (11.5 furlongs) at Lingfield Park & overall now has 5 wins from 11 starts for US$819,889 earnings.
