Marchand D'Or Wins France Gr1 Abbaye

Multiple Gr1-winning 5YO gelding Marchand D'Or (Marchand De Sable-Fedora, by Kendor) came from mid-pack in the 17-horse field to score a 1.5-lengths victory in the €250,000 (A$425,000) Gr1 Prix de l'Abbaye (1000m) at Longchamp. Favourite Marchand D'Or (ridden by David Bonilla for trainer Freddie Head) defeated front-running UK-bred fellow 5YO gelding Moorhouse Lad (Bertolini-Record Time, by Clantime) & UK-bred Gr1-winning 6YO gelding Borderlescott (Compton Plac-Jeewan, by Touching Wood). Previously this season Marchand D'Or won August's French Gr1 Prix Maurice De Gheest (1300m) at Deauville for the 3rd successive year (the 1st galloper to do so) after also winning July's UK Gr1 Darley July Cup (6 furlongs) at Newmarket & June's French Gr2 Prix Du Gros-Chene (1000m) at Chantilly.  During 2007 Marchand D'Or also won France's Gr3 Prix de la Porte Maillot (1400m) at Longchamp (for the 2nd year in succession) & finished runner-up in the UK Gr1 Betfred Sprint Cup (6 furlongs) at Haydock & 3rd in the French Gr1 Prix de la Foret (1400m) at Longchamp. And during 2006 he also won the Listed Prix du Pont Neuf (1400m) at Longchamp, plus runner-up in the Listed Prix Djebel (1400m) at Maisons-Laffitte. Overall Marchand D'Or now has 10 wins & 3 placings from 21 starts for £902,522 (A$1.895m) earnings.
