Tuesday, 7th October 2008

Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum's front-running UK-bred juvenile colt Naaqoos (Oasis Dream-Straight Lass, by Machiavellian) held-on for victory by a neck in the €350,000 (A$595,000) Gr1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere/Grand Criterium (1400m) for 2YOs at Longchamp. Naaqoos (ridden by Davy Bonilla for trainer Freddie Head) defeated fast-finishing fellow colt Milanais (Dyhim Diamond-Milanaise, by Marignan) & US-bred colt Intense Focus (Giant's Causeway-Daneleta, by Danehill). Naaqoos (a half-brother to Gr3-winner Barastraight) was a €280,000 (A$476,000) yearling at last year's Deauville August Sale & now has 3 wins from 4 starts for £174,999 (A$367,000) earnings.
