Tuesday, 7th October 2008

Juvenile colt Vineyard Haven (Lido Palace-Princess Aloha, by Aloha Prospector) notched his 2nd US Gr1 triumph in a month with a runaway 5.75-lengths victory in the US$400,000 Gr1 Champagne Stakes (8 furlongs) for 2YOs at Belmont Park in New York. Front-running Vineyard Haven (ridden by Edgar Prado for trainer Bobby Frankel) defeated fellow colts Munnings (Speightstown-La Comete, by Holy Bull) & favourite Cribnote (Read The Footnotes-Totebook, by Notebook). Last month Florida-bred Vineyard Haven (a half-brother to stakes-winner On The Vineyard) also won the Gr1 Hopeful Stakes (7 furlongs) for 2YOs at Saratoga, after finishing 3rd in July's Gr2 Sanford Stakes (6 furlongs) at Saratoga. Overall Vineyard Have now has 3 wins & a placing from 4 starts for US$419,000 earnings.
