Emergency Surgery For NZ Star Seachange

Wednesday, 8th October 2008

In New Zealand, 7-time Gr1-winning 6YO racemare & dual Kiwi Horse-Of-The-Year Seachange (Cape Cross-Just Cruising, by Broad Reach) underwent emergency surgery at the Matamata Veterinary Services clinic for a twisted bowel. Rick Williams (racing manager for Seachange's Queensland owner-breeder Dick Karreman) confirmed to the media: "Thanks to good vets & staff we were able to save her. They operated & were able to untwist the bowl without cutting any of it away. Another hour or two & we would have lost her." Seachange retired earlier this year with 14 wins (including the Gr1 Stoney Bridge Stakes over 1600m twice, Gr1 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes over 1400m twice, Gr1 Waikato Draught Sprint over 1400m, Gr1 Telegraph Handicap over 1200m, Gr1 NZB 1000 Guineas over 1600m & Australia's Gr3 Mannerism Stakes over 1400m) & 6 placings (including the Gr1 Captain Cook Stakes over 1600m, Gr1 Telegraph Handicap over 1200m, Gr1 Kelt Capital Stakes over 2040m, plus Australia's Gr1 Futurity Stakes over 1600m & Gr1 Myer Classic over 1600m) from 28 starts for $1,497,768 earnings.
