Timeform Rates Zarkava Arc Win At 133

Wednesday, 8th October 2008

In France, Timeform has rated the stunning weekend victory by The Aga Khan's Irish home-bred 3YO filly Zarkava (Zamindar-Zarkasha, by Kahyasi) in the Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (2400m) at Longchamp in Paris at 133: the joint 3rd-best racetrack performance by a filly or mare in the last 20 years & 7th in the last 40 years. Zarkava (racing against males for the 1st time) claimed the world's richest race on grass & maintained her unbeaten record of 7 successive victories by powering home from back in the field for a 2-lengths triumph against a star-studded lineup of older rivals & become the 1st filly since Urban Sea in 1993 to win the Arc. Timeform spokesman Simon Walker commented: "Provisionally, we have her on 133. Zarkava's basic rating for winning the Arc was 131, but she has been credited with an extra 2lb for the style of her success & the fact she didn't have an entirely trouble-free passage. She's undoubtedly one of the best fillies in recent memory and, still unbeaten, has the potential to be the best if she's given the chance to continue racing against colts." Historically Allez France (1974) & Habibti (1983) are the highest-rated fillies/mares by Timeform in the last 40 years on 136; they are followed by Dahlia & Pebbles (both 135) & Petite Etoile & All Along (134). Miesque & Indian Skimmer (both on 133 in 1988) are the highest-rated fillies in the last 20 years. And Zarkava's weekend win is rated 7lb better than the last filly to win the Arc: Urban Sea (only 126) in 1993. Among the males, Timeform 's highest-rated Arc winners of the last 20 years were Peintre Celebre (1997) & Montjeu (1999) at 137. At her previous start Zarkava won September's French Gr1 Prix Vermeille (2400m) against older rivals at Longchamp & previously this season she also won France's Gr1 Prix De Diane-French Oaks (2100m) at Chantilly, Gr1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches-1000 Guineas (1600m) at Longchamp & Gr3 Prix De La Grotte (1600m) at Longchamp. Last year Zarkava won France's Gr1 Prix Marcel Boussac (1600m) at Longchamp & overall now has 7 wins (5 Gr1s) from 7 starts for £2,463,140 (A$5.172m) earnings.
