Ballarat's 2 Grass Lengths Branded "Fiasco"

Friday, 10th October 2008

Meanwhile under the provocative headline "Who Is Responsible For Ballarat Fiasco", Peter Lawrence declared on racenet.com.au: "The Racing Victoria track preparation policy is again under fire with an absurd situation created at Ballarat. Unbelievably, the inside section of the track was mowed about 2.5 inches shorter than the rest of the course. Thus, all winners led hard up against the rail." Lawrence continued: "Victorian racing is easily the best in Australia, but the track preparation is easily the worst. There is so much interference from curators that unfair surfaces are created more often than not. When working out the bias becomes vitally important day-in, day-out, something is horribly wrong. If the poor punter is not confronted with artificially created dead tracks, he then has to put up with an artificial fast lane being created to boot." A fired-up Lawrence concludes the "Ballarat meeting was an absolute joke & those jockeys who chose to ease their mounts when the lead beckoned need to have a serious look at themselves. Even noted back-markers were driven to the lead before waltzing away unopposed. Will somebody be held responsible for this fiasco?"
