Decision On Zarkava This Weekend

Friday, 10th October 2008

Also in France, "connections of last Sunday's Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Zarkava are set to meet this weekend to decide on the future of the unbeaten 3YO," reported racingpost.co.uk. Owner the Aga Khan's spokesman commented: "No decision has been made on Zarkava yet & we are going to all sit down & talk this weekend. I cannot point you in one way or the other, as it really is right down the middle at the moment (between retirement to stud or racing again as a 4YO next year) so we will just have to see. I think by the end of the weekend, there will be some kind of release & everyone will know what is planned." The Aga Khan's Irish home-bred 3YO filly Zarkava (Zamindar-Zarkasha, by Kahyasi) claimed the world's richest race on grass & maintained her unbeaten record of 7 successive victories by powering home from back in the field for a 2-lengths triumph against a star-studded lineup of older rivals in last weekend's €4 million (A$6.8m) Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (2400m) at Longchamp in Paris. Zarkava (ridden by Christophe Soumillon for trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre & racing against males for the 1st time) became the 1st filly since Urban Sea in 1993 to win the Arc. At her previous start Zarkava won September's French Gr1 Prix Vermeille (2400m) against older rivals at Longchamp & previously this season she also won France's Gr1 Prix De Diane-French Oaks (2100m) at Chantilly, Gr1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches-1000 Guineas (1600m) at Longchamp & Gr3 Prix De La Grotte (1600m) at Longchamp. Last year Zarkava won France's Gr1 Prix Marcel Boussac (1600m) at Longchamp & overall now has 7 wins (5 Gr1s) from 7 starts for £2,463,140 (A$5.172m) earnings.
