Cape Cross Adds US Gr3

Monday, 13th October 2008

Darley shuttler Cape Cross (Green Desert-Park Appeal, by Ahonoora) added a US group success when Godolphin's UK-bred colt Hatt Fort (Cape Cross-Oshiponga, by Barathea) snatched victory by a neck in the US$200,000 Gr3 Perryville Stakes (7 furlongs on all-weather) for 3YOs at Keeneland. Hatta Fort (ridden by Julien Leparoux for trainer Saeed Bin Suroor) defeated multiple stakes-winning colt Amazing Results (Grand Slam-Ioya Two, by Lord At War) & favoured fellow colt I'm So Lucky (Langfuhr-Pettit, by A.P.Indy). Hatta Fort (whose dam is from the family of Inchinor) was a 135,000 guineas (A$297,000) purchase at the 2005 UK Tattersalls December Weanling Sale. Previously this year he finished runner-up in April's US Listed Lafayette Stakes (7 furlongs on all-weather) Keeneland; & last season as a juvenile Hatta Fort won the UK Gr2 Superlative Stakes (7 furlongs) at Newmarket, as well as finishing 3rd in the UK Listed Windsor Castle Stakes (5 furlongs) at Royal Ascot (when ridden by visiting Australian jockey Hugh Bowman). Overall Hatta Fort now has 4 wins from 13 starts for US$347,364 earnings.
