Wilander Wins Schillaci Stakes

Darley stalion Exceed And Excel (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) added a group success when 3YO colt Wilander (Exceed And Excel-Scandinavia, by Snippets) scored a long-head victory in the $200,000 weight-for-age Gr2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield. Wilander (ridden by Kerrin McEvoy for trainer Lee Freedman) defeated favoured 5YO gelding Lucky Secret (Rubiton-Won't Tell, by Rory's Jester) & 4YO mare Gamble Me (Rock of Gibraltar-Good Gamble, by Pleasant Tap). Wilander (a 3/4-brother to Gr1-winner Magnus who stands at Eliza Park in association with Yallambee Stud) was a $625,000 yearling bred & consigned by Lee Fleming's Eliza Park at the 2007 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney. He now has 3 wins (also including February's Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude over 1100m at Caulfield) & a placing from 5 starts for $235,350 earnings.
