New York Breeding Sale: Average Up 5.1%
Overall at Saratoga, 157 lots sold (from 234 ofered) for US$1,726,350 (down 2.9% on last year's US$1,778,700). However the US$10,996 average was up 5.1% (last year US$10,463) & the US$5,000 median was up 25% (last year US$4,000). But with the buy-back rate rising to 51.5%, last year's leading consignor Greg Garofalo of Topsmeade told thoroughbredtimes.com: "The sale is experiencing the same problems that the rest of the economy is experiencing. It is not a reflection of the quality of horses. We have excellent horses here. It's just that we're in the same boat as the stock market."
